WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
Use this cosmetic filler for high-volume lifting and restoration in areas of the face that sculpt and contour the overall appearance of the face. The areas that benefit most from Restylane Volyme are the cheeks, chin, and jaw, as these areas best enhance the facial oval for a smoother, fuller appearance. This filler is not recommended for superficial filling, but rather for areas that require deeper added volume. As the main component of this dermal filler is hyaluronic acid, treatment also aims to hydrate the skin by restoring this naturally occurring substance that depletes with age. This results in plumper, more radiant looking skin.
HOW DOES THIS DERMAL FILLER WORK?
Restylane Volyme works to restore volume by being injected into the supraperiostic zone or subcutaneous tissue of the face. The specially designed formula allows for seamless integration with the skin resulting in renewed plumpness in the treated area. Treatment sessions typically last between 20 and 40 minutes and like many other hyaluronic acid-based products, results tend to be instant. While results are long-lasting, touch ups may be required after a certain amount of time.
HOW TO INJECT?
Like all dermal fillers, this product should only be administered by an experienced practitioner familiar with subcutaneous injection techniques. Cleanse the area being treated with an antiseptic before injection and use a 27G1/2” needle to administer the filler. This product contains lidocaine to numb the pain upon injection, so there should be a brief pause of a couple seconds upon initial injection in order for the anaesthetic to take effect. Injection technique and depth will vary depending on the area being treated and the volume being applied, but the product should generally be injected into the supraperiostic zone or subcutaneous tissue. Administer Restylane Volyme slowly with even pressure and massage the treatment area gently once the injection is over in order to evenly distribute the solution once injection is complete. After the procedure, recommend patients avoid using makeup for 12 hours after the injection has taken place.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Duration of the effect will vary from patient to patient as longevity depends on many variables. However, patient studies have shown that results last between 6 to 9 months, with some patients experiencing lasting results for up to a year. These results will vary based on skin type, age, lifestyle, and application technique as well as the area being treated.
IS THIS FACE FILLER SAFE?
Restylane Volyme is safe to use and produces instant, long-lasting results using a non-surgical method of injection. As hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance present in all living organisms, it is completely biodegradable and integrates safely with the skin. However, there are some common mild risks associated with administering this product, including the risk of infection to the injection site. For the safest results, the manufacturer cautions patients to avoid exposure to extreme temperatures after treatment until the expected inflammation has disappeared. This filler should not be used on children. As with other injection-based procedures, this product should be administered with caution on any patient using substances that could affect platelet function, such as aspirin, or any anti-inflammatory drugs.
RESTYLANE VOLYME SIDE EFFECTS
There are some mild side effects or reactions that can be expected after treatment using Restylane Volyme. These effects tend to resolve themselves within a couple days, and you can advise patients to reach out if there are any long-lasting or unexpected effects. If a patient experiences any unexpected reactions or any effects not listed in the informational leaflet, contact the manufacturer immediately.
